President Wilson proclaimed November 11, 1919 as the first commemoration of Armistice Day. An armistice (temporary cessation of hostilities) of World War I (the war to end all wars) went into affect the previous year on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleven month. On May 13th, 1938 November 11th was made a legal holiday celebrated as Armistice Day. After World War II November 11th was official changed from Armistice Day to Veterans Day in order to honor all American soldiers in all wars.

Every day seven thousand Americans lose their unemployment benefits. In October more than two-hundred-thousand people will lose their unemployment benefits. By the end of this year one-million-three-hundred-thousand people could see the end of their governments help.

Over two weeks ago the House has passed a bill to extend benefits but the Senate is still trying to work out the extension details. Senate Democrats would like to lengthen unemployment benefits by fourteen weeks in all states and add an additional six weeks for states with the highest unemployment rates.

September’s unemployment rate was at a twenty-six year high at nine point eight percent. One out of every three people who are on unemployment benefits have been without work for at least six months.

Walmart, Target and Kmart all open in the same year of 1962. Since it’s beginning less than fifty years ago Walmart now has over eight thousand stores with over two million employees. One hundred and seventy-six million customers shop at walmart each year.
